Butterflies (made from coffee filters and food colouring)

Making butterlfies

This is an easy way to paint without paint!
Be aware - you might want to make sure your child has a "paint shirt" or smock to do this.

What you Need:

4 bowls or plates
food colouring
cotton swabs (I find Q-Tips work the best)
Coffee filters
Pipe cleaners cut in half
And your handy little helper ;)

So lets begin! I use gel based food colouring so my colours might pop a little more then water based food colouring. You need a couple drops of water based food colouring, or 1 drop of the gel based food colouring. Use whatever colours you like, we stuck with the red, yellow, green, and blue

.

A little bit of water (again this depends how bright you'd like your colours) I used 2 Table Spoons with each colour. We also had to mix the gel well with the water. (you can see in some photos its not mixed well - my son was wanting to use the paint before I was finished lol)

We flattened our coffee filters before we used them too.

I
put news paper down before my little guy started "painting"

The Cotton swabs acted as our paint brushes

After we were done, we layed the coffee filters flat on some newspaper to dry (these dry fairly quick)
while these dry is a perfect time to cut the pipe cleaners in half. I found the more colours you have the better
Grab a dry coffee filter and pinch in in the middle

wrap a pipe cleaner around the middle ( I do this twice)

You have yourself a butterfly.. Tada!!
